Welcome to the CDEAL GIS Website.
This site discusses the CDEAL GIS I have been working on since early 2007. The central goal of this project is to aid in creating a diasporic archaeology of Chinese communities worldwide. The GIS available here combines extracts from online digital data (e.g., China Historical GIS) with additional information (e.g., language atlases, historic maps) allowing researchers to identify and gather information about emigrant areas for Chinese communities around the world.
This site remains under construction and I plan to continue updates through the autumn months of 2011. These updates are scheduled to coincide with the publication of my forthcoming article in the International Journal of Historical Archaeology titled Creating a Diasporic Archaeology of Chinese Migration: Tentative Steps Across Four Continents. This article is currently available to subscribers as a PDF through Springer's website, and will be in print form later this year.
While the updates continue, you can access the GIS here. Some preliminary instructions are here.
Also, you can take a look at some of the examples from my forthcoming IJHA article.
